Work Ethic for Business Startups

Many people start a business without a clear idea of what is involved. Before starting a business review the following checklist to see if you have work ethic to start your own business.

Are you willing to work more than 8 hours a day and/or 5 days a week to achieve your goal? _____ _____

Do you have thestamina to keep long hours? _____ _____

Can you handle the strain associated with a business? _____ _____

Can you keep multiple tasks and activities going at once? _____ _____

Can you lower your standard of living if necessary? _____ _____

Do you have the support of your family? _____ _____

Are you prepared to potentially lose your savings? _____ _____

If you answered no to any of these questions ask yourself why and see if you can create a plan to change your no’ss to yes’s. It is not unusual for someone in a start up to work 6-7 days a week, 12-16 hours a day.

The stress of not knowing where the next opportunity will come from is more than some people can handle. Without the support of your family you will create conflict with the people you love. You will find that it is not work if you are doing what you love.

For every question to which you answered no, add into your business plan how you will overcome this concern. It can be through training, hiring others, partnership, corporate structure, etc., but put a plan in place to help you in this area. Starting a business is hard enough without you being honest and proactively addressing your weaknesses. List what action you will take to turn every no under work ethic to a yes.
