Goals Setting

Here is a brief guide to writing good goods. Good goals are –

Time Bound: It has a date in which the goal is to be achieved

Specific: A good goal must have specific details.

Measurable: All goals must be measurable.

Achievable: Can it be achieved? By achievable I mean something you can and want to achieve.

For example, I know that I could get a job as a manager doing information technology consulting, but I don’t want to, so I won’t try to achieve it. This goal is realistic, but for me it is not achievable.

Realistic: It must be something that you can realistically accomplish. An unrealistic goal for me would be to become a trusted advisor to Bill Gates.

You must be very careful with realistic and achievable when you are setting goals. Our life would be very different if someone told Thomas Edison that creating the light bulb was not realistic or achievable.

The next component of a good goal is that it must be Results Oriented: Is there a direct result to this goal? I want to make $1,000 this week is a results oriented goal. I want to make some money to buy a car is not a results oriented goal. It does not talk about how much money, the type of car or when this will happen.

Write down your goals that are required for you to move ahard. Ask yourself the following questions about each goal: Is it time bound, realistic, achievable and measurable?

Until next time
